Arthur was my sister’s husband, but he was more than
my brother-in-law, I consider him my brother.  Among
other things, he was a musician with a beautiful voice,
who decided late in life that music was his calling.  He
pursued it with passion and found a place in a popular
local band with whom he traveled as far as Wales and
Amsterdam.  With his family and his music, Arthur had
found happiness.

I think that the first thing which struck me about
Arthur, what made me realize how truly unique he was,
was his ability to listen.  Arthur had an incredible way of
making people comfortable enough with him that they
would bare their souls to him and let him see what they
were about.  He was sincerely interested in not only
what you were saying, but also had the ability to hear
what you weren't saying; to cut through the bull and
get right to the heart of the matter, even if you didn't
know what that was.

For me, what made Arthur so special was his interested,
encouraging spirit.  He inspired me to believe that the
things I wanted to do were possible.

Arthur died of cancer in April 2006.

Now, when I am training and start to get tired and think
I can’t do this, it is Arthur’s Brooklyn-accented voice I
hear telling me I can.  It is in his memory and honor
that I will complete my first triathlon
